Lots of people have asking what killed Yar’adua.

BBC confirmed that “A presidential spokesman said at the time that he was being treated for acute pericarditis, an inflammation of the lining around the heart. ”

What isĀ  pericarditis?

The hearts sits in the center of the chest and is surrounded by a sac called the pericardium. This sac has two layers, one that fits tightly onto the heart muscle and another looser layer surrounding the inner layer. Inflammation of these tissue layers surrounding the heart is referred to as pericarditis.

  1. Godwin says:

    Nice article on Pericardium.
There have been lots of speculation on his sickness. Most common was Kidney disease, some even suggesting he had his wife donate a kidney for transplant.

By the way, they never mentioned openly any smoking habits by the deceased, though yet-unverified sources allude to the habit.
Perhaps if this is verified and linked to the cause of pericardium and subsequent death, it could help hit home the dangers associated with smoking – which habit many Nigerian youths are increasingly adopting.
