Funding for students who are accepted into an MMath or PhD program is typically a combination of teaching assistantships and research assistantships. An MMath student receiving full support from TA and RA currently receives $22,282 to $26,803 per year; a PhD student currently receives $24,158 to $24,589 per year. International students receive additional financial support to make up the additional cost for tuition fees for international students.
Currently, nearly 100% of our full-time MMath graduate students and PhD graduate students are fully funded. Financial support is not offered to part-time students.
A limited number of entrance scholarships, currently providing an additional $3,000 for MMath students and $4,000 for PhD students per year, are awarded to applicants of exceptional academic merit. Applicants are automatically considered for these funds at the time of admission. The other main sources of financial support available for graduate students are David R. Cheriton Scholarships, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Scholarships, Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS), Ontario Graduate Scholarships for Science and Technology (OGSST), GO-Bell Doctoral Scholarships, University of Waterloo Graduate Scholarships, Faculty of Mathematics Graduate Scholarships, and Instructorships. A table summarizing these scholarships is included below.
